Guy Pierce spoke at our Circuit Assembly some years ago (whilst alive). There was a considerable queue from the audience awaiting an audience.

On a tangent: I received promise of a huge boost to my bank account from a real U.S. bank (via email). I went to the official site and requested a link to fraud alert. I read that, amongst other clues, incorrect grammar, spelling, etc. are a giveaway that the message is not legit.

Sure enough, wrong verb tenses, improper lower- and uppercase renderings. Grammar Nazi I caught 'em!

Same with citations from WT publications. Having proofread MSS at Bethel and read the finished product for years, I know their style and when they're copied/pasted (WT bona fide) or rewritten (with errors, terminology inconsistent with WT format; nonidiomatic expressions).

Funny -- I'm patient with people but have not always been so with dogs, especially when demanding. As mentioned, it's just that I am so tired I let myself surrender to the dog. It WAS CALMING. I allowed it to be.

I want to enjoy life, and dogs have become a daily -- yes, seven days a week -- concern. Might as well go with the flow and let the four-legged be the leader.

Your experiences are very much appreciated.

Since I wrote "I Walk Dogs" a few days ago, I started caring for a new little fellow. Feisty and noisy, bouncing off the walls. I was a bit apprehensive at first, my needing to spend three nights with him during Mom and Dad's vacation.

When I walked in on day one, the poochie greeted me noisily. After a few minutes, he calmed down and so did my worries. Tired from too much work and an overload of stress, I sat down on the couch and Curly jumped up and promptly went to sleep next to me. I couldn't move and risk waking him!

Well, my usual perfunctory petting of generic "Fido" on other jobs went out the window. I looked for opportunities to sit and relax and not feel guilty for doing nothing. Curly needs me cuz he's got separation anxiety! No rushing to another routine task that, surely, can be done later -- if at all.

Sit. Relax. Breathe. Pet the dog.

Your thoughts and experiences are welcome. BTW, I knew of guide and service dogs, but comfort dogs was new to me.

It was not a career of choice but just sort of happened. Years ago, a client was planning a two-week vacation to Jellystone National Park and needed both a house sitter and a dog(s) sitter. "Please, watch our dogs and eat our food and stay in our beautiful chateau on the lake." Yours truly replied, "Okay."

Well, to the present. Ilsa's AKC-issue creme-de-la-creme leash is leading her sister canine some 20 miles from my present location. Left behind is a serviceable but sadly worn, skimpy red leash, knotted and frayed. It shouts imperceptibly, while I clasp it to the hardy Husky's sturdy neck, "I'm a frayed knot! I'm a frayed knot."

I'm the one who's afraid not; it won't hold the pooch's tugs and pulls.

We're on our way -- it's the usual, spotting a deer, a squirrel, and my reining in this pure, white-hot power. In moments after our start, I sense a change in the aspect of the sky, the earth beneath, the feel of the red leash in my now-trembling hand.

The tired little dog-bone-patterned cord takes on a life of its own and becomes magically transformed into the magnificence of canine-restraining cordage it was meant to be! "The Dog and I" (a prospective book title?) began doing the wildest capers: skipping rope (a lengthened leash) in tandem; describing arcs with our somersaulting bodies; taking skyward leaps, meters from the asphalt beneath. No little audience was in attendance, adults with jaws to their feet, tiny children squealing with glee, clapping their little paws till they turned beet red.

Just another day, walking a very special dog with her very special red leash.

Hey, New Boy:

I recall much of what you wrote, especially the man in the green suit and Lady Margaret. I sometimes had to go out on my own in Manhattan and Brooklyn but was never mugged. Propositioned once, though, by a guy. Other than that, I think I was invisible.

Like you, I learned not to make eye contact with anyone. We spent hours and hours a week on the subway. What a life. To make good use of my time on the train, I wrote letters to non-JWs to get in my time. Two to two-and-a-half-hour ride to and from meetings and service!

lately i have been finding myself doing a lot of thinking.

not that i am smarter than the keurig coffee maker in my office, which lately has made me reevaluate the perception of my professional career.

somewhere along the way between winding down my relationship with my now ex-boss and starting a new one with my current boss, i noticed that the machine complaints with a message on a touchscreen….

this happened to my me and my wife a few week ago.

a marking talk was given at the mid-week meeting in which no names were mentioned yet a detailed description of the "offending bastards" was delivered so that there as no doubt who this "pond scum" might be.

Years ago, my take-no-nonsense JW friend and I spoke regularly with our mutual "marked" friend, even after he was disfellowshipped. At the KH, No Nonsense was talking to Marked and subsequently taken aside and counseled for talking to him. Scripturally smart and keen of mind, No Nonsense quoted Paul's words and asked why, in the Kingdom Hall (of all places), can't I encourage my spiritually ailing brother? He's not my enemy.
